Today, although I am 6 months older than Tom (a fact much enjoyed by him), I can legitimately refer to him as my "elder". Why? Because this evening, after several years of disciplined biblical study, prayer and self-examination, Tom will be appointed or "ordained" as an Elder in our home church, Grace Bible Church. If you want to read more about this "office" or position within the church, you can look up a passage in 1 Timothy, Chapter 3, verses 1-8. (The term "overseer" and "elder" are the same).
Basically however, he will now share the responsibility before the Lord (along with 3 other men), for the spiritual welfare of this congregation of believers. It is a sobering responsibility. As Tom's wife, I am truly rejoicing today to see him step into this position. He has so many gifts and I look forward to seeing him exercise these more fully within our church. Any of you who still read this...(this may be an extremely small group by now... : ) know that my husband is an exceptional man in so many ways. (Of course, he is NOT a perfect man and he would cringe at the thought of anyone thinking so!) But, I rejoice in the thought that the Lord will use him, refine him and further mature him in this position. In serving others in this capacity he will be shaped more into the likeness of Christ. With all my heart I know that he is ready for this step, and for this journey of faith.
"I love you sweetheart and I am so proud of the man you are, and I am excited to see how God will grow you these next few years!"
Please pray for Tom...that God may be glorified in his life and that he will grow strong and have much joy in serving the Lord.

Congratulations Tom! That's a wonderful accomplishment and responsibility (which we know you will handle with grace).
I hope you are able to come to Houston in September - maybe we'll even get a cool front so it won't be sweltering when you arrive :-).
Zoe
Tom and Victoria,
we are still reading and still interested in the ever growing Krug family.
we love that Tom is now an elder and will lift you all up in prayer. may the Lord carry you with this hefty task, but know that He has prepared you for this good work and will see it to completion.
